Fight Candida with Nutritious Dinners

Dinnertime can be stressful. Being at the end of the day means that bodies are tired and most likely hungry. Add to these conditions the attempt to follow a candida diet and the prospects of getting the right kind of evening meal in your system can seem downright impossible. Still, with the right preparation and planning it is possible to avoid the drive-thru/take-out scenario and create a dinner meal that nourishes your body and fights off candida.

Have you ever wondered how some people manage to have dinner on the table nearly every night, even though they work a day job or have many activities filling their daytime hours? The key to enjoying a meal at home and avoiding the lures of the often unhealthy and very expensive restaurant meal is to make a plan and stick to it.

Whether you prefer to plan your meals a week in advance and cook each night, or you prefer to do your cooking for the week on one day, freezing or refrigerating portions to enjoy the rest of the week, it takes a certain amount of planning to make it happen.

You may think you couldn't possible have enough time to do that much planning and cooking, but consider how making good nutrition a priority will result in better health and quality of life. It is well worth the time and effort.

Dinner is actually an ideal meal for the foods acceptable on a candida-friendly diet. With lots of lean protein, a variety of vegetables and whole grains from which to choose, it is simple to put together a nutritious and tasty meal that will be satisfying and stick with you through the night. Not to mention these food items can balance your blood sugar and contribute to the fight against candida overgrowth in your body.

If looking ahead to plan an entire week of candida dinner delights is too overwhelming at this point, just start by planning a day in advance. Decide what you want to cook, make sure your kitchen is stocked with the appropriate items, and determine if you need to cook the items in advance or will have time prior to the evening meal.

To give you a little help with your menu, below are a few candida recipes you can try:

Chicken and Vegetable Quinoa

Ingredients:

1 cup Quinoa

1 cup Diced Cooked Chicken

¼ cup Sugar-Free Marinara Sauce

2 Garlic Cloves, Minced

½ Onion, Diced

2 Carrots, Diced

1 Green or Yellow Pepper, Diced

½ Head of Cabbage, Red or White, Chopped

2 Yellow Squash, Sliced

2 Tbs. Olive Oil

Pepper to Taste

Add quinoa to a large pot on medium heat. Toast the quinoa in the dry pan until you hear a popping sound. Stir it well to make sure it toasts evenly and to avoid burning. When golden, add 3 cups of water and bring to a simmer for 15 minutes. In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and then the carrot and red cabbage. Sautee for 5 minutes and then add the pepper and squash. After the quinoa has simmered for 15 minutes, add the marinara sauce. When the quinoa is fully cooked with no liquid remaining, add the chicken, vegetables and pepper and heat until the chicken is warm.

Balsamic Marinated Grilled Salmon with Crispy Asparagus

Ingredients:

Salmon Filets or Steaks

Balsamic Vinegar

Fresh or Dried Dill

Olive Oil

Salt and Pepper

Bunch of Asparagus

Shredded Parmesan Cheese

Prepare the grill with oil and heat. Season salmon by sprinkling generously with salt and vinegar. Chop dill and combine with olive oil to make a paste and then cover the salmon with the mixture, allowing it to sit and marinate for at least 30 minutes. Grill the salmon approximately 4 minutes on each side, or until the fish turns opaque. Meanwhile, break off the tough ends of the asparagus and place on a broiler rack or pan. Sprinkle with Parmesan and drizzle with olive oil. Broil until the cheese begins to brown and asparagus is slightly crispy.

Candida-Friendly Burger

Ingredients:

Lean Ground Beef or Turkey-preferably organic, hormone-free

Salt and Pepper

Onions, sliced into rings

Mushrooms, sliced

Olive Oil

Gluten-Free Bread

Dijon Mustard

Make patties out of the ground beef and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill, broil or cook patties in a pan until cooked to your preference. Meanwhile, sauté onion slices and mushrooms in olive oil until browned and caramelized. Serve the burner atop the toasted bread slice, smothered in onions and mushrooms with Dijon mustard if desired.

An Quick Dinner Recipe - Cheese Quesadillas

I love to serve Quesadillas, mainly because they are so cheap, versatile and a quick dinner recipe for a busy night. If you have tortillas and cheese, you can make Quesadillas with whatever is in your fridge and pantry. They are good with just cheese and salsa, and even better with a few veggies thrown in or whatever leftover meat you have in the refrigerator.

Here is a quick dinner recipe and some further ideas for Quesadillas. You can toast these in a skillet, in the oven, or I usually just throw them on my indoor grill, two at a time. No need for a quesadilla maker. (The grill does put ridges on them, but who cares?)

Don't stuff these too heavily, a little filling makes a nice easily manageable finger food. Just make and eat more of them. You can substitute salsa for the pepper, tomato and onion to make this recipe even easier.

A Quick Dinner Recipe -- Cheese Quesadillas

8 flour tortillas

1 cup Monterey jack cheese, shredded

1 cup stemmed, coarsely chopped watercress or arugula

1 tablespoon thinly sliced red onion

1 tablespoon tomato, finely chopped

1 tablespoon garlic (optional)

1 serrano or jalapeno pepper, finely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Heat the grill or frying pan. Brush with a little olive oil or vegetable oil.
Place a tortilla on the grill. Sprinkle one half of tortilla with the cheese, then with the remaining ingredients. Top with more cheese fold the tortilla over to close.
Close the grill top if using the grill or tortilla maker, otherwise cook for a minute on the first side, then turn over and grill on the other side. These cook very quickly, so watch them.
To serve, remove from grill and cut into wedges. Serve with salsa, guacamole or sour cream.

Other Filling Ideas Use a mixture of Mozzarella and Feta Cheese, greek olives, and diced onions. Flavor with fresh or dried oregano, basil, and rosemary. Use Monterey Jack cheese and cheddar cheese mix with diced roasted chicken. Add fresh or grilled onions and bell peppers. Stuff with grilled or lightly stir-fried vegetables such as zucchini, onion, mushrooms, peppers-- any that you like. Add a slice of provolone cheese or freshly grated parmesan.

How to Cure an Ear Infection With Home Remedies

Before we begin talking about the cure of ear infections remember it is always important to identify the symptoms and know what you are dealing with before trying any treatment. I have suffered from ear infections since I was very little and now unfortunately, both of my children have already had multiple infections. We were tired of making numerous trips to the doctor each month so my grandmother gave me some of her home remedies that have worked like a charm! We have tried everything and these are among the best treatments that I have personally tried! Needless to say we have not been back to the doctor for treatment of an ear infection.

Garlic and Olive Oil Treatment.

You are going to need 4 Large Tablespoons of garlic. Some water some olive oil enough to fully cover the bottom of a sauce pan chop up some onion let it simmer (stir occasionally) until the garlic looks chunky and dry then strain the juice into a bowl or cup and use an eye dropper or syringe and put it into your ear, hold your head sideways for about 5-10 min. Then tilt your head and let the remaining juice come out. You can also place a cotton ball in the ear.

Lemon Juice Treatment

For really bad ear aches/infections squeeze lemon juice in your ear, keep it in for a few seconds, then let it drain out. I usually place a towel or cotton ball over the ear because this gets pretty sticky! The lemon helps to change the Ph levels in your ear. The bacteria is a base, and if you add the lemon, which is an acid, it neutralizes the Ph levels in your ear so that the bacteria cannot live in there!

Onion Treatment

Warm grated onion slightly in microwave, and drop a few drops of juice into ear with dropper. I used this with both my children when they were infants and it worked immediately! The stopped crying and were able to sleep!

Garlic, Oil and Colloidal Silver Treatment

Put few drops of garlic juice into the infected ear. Use blow dryer from about 12 to 15 inches from your head, this will remove any water trapped in the Eustachian tube. Put some olive oil on the warm spoon; put 2 to 3 drops of this in each ear. Put few drops of lobelia extract into the infected ear and rub it gently. Wash your ear using colloidal silver, it is a natural antibiotic. Slightly warm one teaspoon of juice of the mango leaf and put it into the infected ear drop by drop.

Steam Facial Treatment

Another great home remedy for ear infections involves draping a towel over the head and sitting over a bowl containing hot steaming water and essential oils. There are more then one type of oils that will benefit you, including ginger, peppermint, and eucalyptus. This home remedy is called a steam facial and can help clear up congestion and other symptoms that can aggravate ear infections.

Stuffed Mushrooms

Stuffed Mushrooms are a great starter for just about any meal. They make great appetizers and are a satisfying snack. If you like you can also modify this recipe and add a little crab meat to give it an extra kick. Horseradish sauce goes well with these tasty treats.

Stuffed Mushrooms

What you need:

11/2 Package of Fresh mushrooms (your choice) save the other half of the package
½ Cup of Parmesan cheese
¼ of a Finely Chopped Onion
¼ of a medium Bell Pepper
3 cloves of garlic Very finely chopped (or sub garlic salt) Omit pinch of salt if you sub garlic salt. Fresh is better.
Pinch of salt and pepper
¼ Bread crumbs (Italian is best)
1 tsp of oregano
11/2 cup of mozzarella cheese
1 stick of butter or margarine softened. (You can use margarine from the tub)

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees

Wash the mushrooms to remove any dirt. Next gently pull the stems out of the mushroom to make it look like a bowl.

Set the mushrooms on a clean kitchen towel to dry. While the crowns are drying, finely chop up all of the pieces of stem and place them in a bowl with all of your ingredients minus the mozzarella cheese. Mix well. Spoon 1 tsp of the mixture into each crown and place in a shallow backing dish. Using a teaspoon as your guide, place butter in between the mushrooms. 5 teaspoons should be enough. Next place the mushrooms close to each other. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and bake for 25-30 or until mushrooms are soft and the cheese is brown.

Serve and enjoy.

Chicken Asparagus Salad

¼ cup of lemon juice

1/3 cup of olive oil or canola oil

1 teaspoon of lemon-pepper seasoning

3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar or dry sherry

½ cup of chopped onion

12 ounces of sliced cooked chicken breast, cut into thin strips (about 2½ cups)

¾ pound of asparagus spears or one 10-ounce package of frozen asparagus spears.

1 cup of sliced fresh mushrooms

1 medium cucumber, thinly sliced

Fresh basil (optional)

Leaf lettuce

Basil Mayonnaise (below)

For the marinade, in a screw-top jar combine vinegar or sherry, oil, lemon-pepper seasoning and lemon juice. Cover and shake well. In a mixing bowl combine chicken and onion. Add marinade. Toss lightly to coat. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook asparagus in boiling salted water for 10 to 15 minutes or till nearly tender. (Or, cook frozen asparagus according to package directions.) Drain asparagus. Rinse with cold water. Let stand, covered with cold water.

Drain onion and chicken, reserving 3 tablespoons of the marinade for Basil Mayonnaise. For salads, line 4 salad plates with lettuce. Cut the tomato slices in half. Around the outer edge of each plate, alternately arrange one-fourth of the tomatoes and one-fourth of the cucumber, overlapping as necessary. (Place the rounded edges of tomatoes toward the outer edges of the plates, forming petal like shapes.) Then, using one-fourth of the mushrooms, arrange a ring inside the cucumber-tomato ring. Drain asparagus spears. Arrange one-fourth of the asparagus and one-fourth of the chicken mixture in the center of each plate. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired. Serve with Basil Mayonnaise.

Basil Mayonnaise: Mix together 3 tablespoons of reserved marinade, 1 tablespoon of fresh snipped basil or 1 teaspoon of dried basil, crushed; and ½ cup of mayonnaise or salad dressing.

Pork Recipes: Pork Casserole with Mustard, Capers and Sage & Lemon Pork Chops with Mustard Sauce

Pork Casserole with Mustard, Capers and Sage
This is a simple casserole with a subtle flavour - a family favourite, with a classy touch.
Ingredients

6 (1kg) large pork loin chops

25ml oil

Salt and milled black pepper

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, crushed

50ml flour

250ml chicken stock

50ml white wine

14 fresh sage leaves, finely chopped

5ml French mustard

10ml capers, rinsed and chopped

Pinch each salt and sugar

25ml cream or thick sour cream
Ingredients

Cut off rind and trim chops of most fat. Heat oil and brown chops very lightly on both sides. Arrange in baking dish to fit closely, in single layer. Season. To pan drippings add onion and garlic. When softened, add flour, and stir for a minute, then slowly stir in stock and wine. Allow to thicken, then add sage, mustard, capers, salt, sugar and cream or sour cream. Mix well and pour over chops. Cover and bake at 160ºC for 1 hour 10 minutes, or until chops are tender and gravy is thick and aromatic - the timing depends on thickness of chops, size of dish and position in oven. Good with lemon-flavoured rice, or jacket potatoes and a cabbage salad. Serves 6.

Lemon Pork Chops with Mustard SauceThese chops, lightly perfumed with lemon and sage, are crumbed and baked and served with mustard sauce made in the old-fashioned way.
Ingredients

1kg pork chops

7ml dried sage

300ml fine, toasted breadcrumbs or 5 wholewheat breakfast biscuits, crushed

5ml salt

100ml yogurt or buttermilk

50ml mayonnaise

25ml lemon juice

2ml finely grated lemon rind
MUSTARD SAUCE

250ml milk

1 egg yolk

10ml dry mustard

20ml flour

10ml brown sugar

15ml brown vinegar

Pinch salt

Small knob butter
Method

Remove rind and most of the fat from chops. Crush sage between fingers after measuring and mix with crumbs and salt. Mix yoghurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice and rind. Dip chops into yoghurt mixture, then into crumbs and chill for 2-3 hours. To bake, preheat oven to 160ºC. Lightly oil base of large baking dish, heat for a few minutes, then arrange chops in single layer, turning once. Cover and bake for 1 hour, then uncover and bake for 30 minutes more. For the sauce, put all ingredients, except butter, into the top of a double boiler, whisk well and then stir over simmering water until thick and smooth. Finally, stir in butter. Serves about 6.

Chinese Chilli Prawns And Rice

This dish involves a delicious combination of chilli prawns and rice. Either raw or pre-cooked prawns can be used. Though raw prawns are better for absorbing flavour from the marinade. The end result is very similar to fried rice, though a wok is not required.

Quantities shall not be listed in the recipe as I am an adhoc chef and just add roughly what I think is best. When you try this recipe, become an artist and add your own

Ingredients

Prawn Marinade:

ginger

garlic

chilli (powder, flakes or fresh)

sesame oil

light soya sauce

For the rest:

rice

water

onion

mushrooms

sweetcorn

peas

Bouillon vegetable stock

spring onion

Instructions

Prawn Marinade

Chop the ginger, garlic and chilli (if fresh) finely. Mix this with the sesame oil, light soya sauce and ground black pepper.

Mix the prawns in the marinade and set aside in a fridge for a few hours. If I'm planning on serving lunch at 12pm, I'll normally prepare the beef at 9am.

Cooking

Rinse the rice in the rice cooker a few times, and fill with water until there's about a finger nail's breadth of water above the top of the rice.

Add about half a teaspoon of vegetable stock to the rice,

Chop the onion and mushrooms into small pieces.

Add all the vegetables (apart from the spring onion) to the rice.

Add the marinaded prawns to the rice.

Mix everything up.

Turn on the rice cooker start cooking.

Chop up the spring onion.

When the food is cooked (this normally takes about 30 minutes), turn off the rice cooker, add the chopped spring onion, and give it all another good stir.

Easy Deviled Egg Recipe - Easy Deviled Egg Recipe with Mustard

12 hard boiled eggs, cooled

1 teaspoon dry or 2 teaspoons prepared mustard

Dash pepper

1/3 cup mayonnaise or sour cream

1 tablespoon vinegar

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Paprika

Directions

Remove eggs from shell and cut lengthwise in half. Remove egg yolks and place yolks in a small bowl. Mash up the yolks with a fork and add the remaining ingredients, except for the paprika.

Use either an electric mixer or a fork to beat egg mixture until nice and fluffy. Spoon (or use an icing bag for a more decorative filling) egg mixture into egg white shell halves. Sprinkle the paprika on top. As an alternative garnish, use fresh parsley.

=> Light Deviled Eggs

12 hard boiled eggs, cooled

3/4 cup northern beans

1/3 cup low fat or fat free mayonnaise

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon turmeric or 2 drops of yellow food coloring

Dash pepper

1 tablespoon vinegar

1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Paprika or fresh parsley

Directions

Chop up boiled eggs and remove yolks. Cut white shells in half lengthwise. Put 6 egg yolks in a food processor or blender (store remaining yolks for future use). Add remaining ingredients, except paprika or parsley.

Blend egg mixture until smooth. Spoon or pipe yolk mixture into white egg halves. Sprinkle with paprika or fresh parsley.

If you are making the eggs on a plate and then planning to transfer them into a container, be careful to let the eggs cool down first. The white egg shells can break apart easily when they are warm.

You might want to invest in an egg plate - it's a ceramic plate that has holes where you place individual deviled eggs. You can prepare and serve the eggs right in the egg plate.

A Few Cold And Flu Remedies Passed On To Me By A Wicca Witch

It is that time of year again colds and flu are just around the corner, of course according to me I never get a cold it is always flu.

These are just a few home made recipes passed on by my good ladies cousin, she is a Wicca witch, but do not worry these ladies are not the scary witches you see in the movies.

She does not live out in the country in a hovel, far from it she resides in a block of flats in my home city.

We never buy any of the cold and flu remedies from the chemist shop, instead we use natures pharmacy.

Obviously if your symptoms get no better after a few days it may be time to visit the doctor.

1. Onion and honey cough syrup.

This is not really a cough medicine as such because you could put it directly onto potatoes or your favourite vegetables. But personally I like to take it by the spoonful as many times as required.

Cooking this mixture up could not be easier, use a small saucepan chop a yellow skinned onion, add a cup of honey and a tablespoon of thyme, as much as you want if you can get it fresh, cook until the onion is soft, that is it job done.

Research has proven that onions and garlic irritate the lining of the stomach, this in turn forces the lungs to release a secretion that thins the thick mucus that makes you feel ill.

When peeling onions they make your eyes water this is the same action working, but it is getting rid of the sticky mucus in the lungs.

2. Thyme is an age old remedy, boil it up with some honey and drink as a tea, effective against laryngitis.

3. I remember an old remedy my dear old mother used on us as kids to relieve coughing.

Chop an onion place it in the oven to heat up then wrap it in a cloth, make sure it is not to hot and place directly on the chest, if you are using this on a child it may help to tape it on.

The fumes from the onion will stop any cough dead in it's tracks, fair comment the bedroom and you will stink the next day, but hey you have had a good nights sleep.

4. Lemons and honey are another great remedy, squeeze a couple of lemons heat with a teaspoon of honey, and drink the mixture, this is an excellent way to help ease sore throats.

5. Another Wicca remedy I have tried and I would sooner have the flu, take some elder-flowers fresh or dried boil them up and make a tea, drink hot. Good luck with this one I have never tasted anything like it, totally disgusting.

This seems a bit strange it has nothing to do with Wicca, I do not know how it works but it did for me.

Although I think maybe you should get medical advise before trying this, as I am not responsible I am just passing on the information.

There has been research done, I believe many years ago, that says cold and flu bugs enter through the ears.

This is certainly not what we have been taught, do you remember all of the adverts and posters coughs and sneezes spread diseases, yes as far as we knew we inhaled these bugs.

Although I am convinced this remedy works I am not prepared to put my name to it, but the information is out there if you require it.

But the best remedy of all go to bed for a couple of days, get well wrapped up and have someone run around after you.

Convince them that alcohol is the perfect cure, and get them to make you a few hot toddies, read a good book and sleep a lot.

Slap Chop Review - What You Should Know Before Buying the Slap Chop!

The product's website says that Slap Chop is designed to chop, mince and dice virtually any herb, nut and plant in your kitchen. Most of the time, it claims in commercial is true, although there have been customers who have said that there are foods that work on it better than others.

It works well in cutting most vegetables and fruits, but there are now claims saying that it's not good when used with tomatoes. The blades are able to cut through the skin of tomatoes, but have the tendency to squash them. Using it with potatoes is not easy as well since they have a tendency to get lodged in the blades of Slap Chop. In spite of its general functionality, this product has been getting missed opinions from customers who have tried using it.

Pa who is a newshound WBRE in Wilkes-Barre tested the Slap Chop and he found that it works well on the majority of foods. Despite that, he only gave the product an average score because of its inability to cut tomatoes and for the reason that there are cheaper products in the market that does the same thing. Another product reviewer from a TV station was not at all pleased with it for its inability to cut potatoes and tomatoes.

Take note though there are a number of videos in the internet showing people using Slap Chop successfully with different foods including tomatoes which were cut face down instead of face up. There are also many people who are extremely satisfied after buying this famous food chopper. They say it's is such a convenience; simple to use and easy to clean.

"The first time I got Slap Chop, I was surprised by the amazing fact that it worked exactly as how it was featured in the infomercials. It is kinda straightforward. It's also clean and fast. Mixing vegetables within the Slap Chop side by side is okay too. You can also choose to mix it together. This is perfect for making stews, salads, or any meals that need slicing vegetables as part of the preparation. It's amazing how perfectly this product does its work."

In my opinion, the it does make your job much easier and faster. I don't like chopping vegetables like onion because it makes me cry. The Slap Chop did a good job on chopping and taking the skin off the onions and I don't have to cry anymore.

Chicken Curry Recipes - Chicken Madras

Chicken Madras is a dish that can be found in Indian restaurants all over the world and for many people it is among their choice of top chicken curry recipes. Chicken Madras comes from southern India and the curry is quite hot owing to a fairly large amount of chilli in the recipe although it can be reduced if necessary if it is too hot for your taste.

Below is a version of the Chicken Madras curry I've been preparing for a few years, which is based on that which appears in Pat Chapman's book Indian Restaurant Cookbook. The main difference is in the spice mix, which adds a larger number of spices into the initial spice mix and does away with the addition of garam massala towards the end. Another difference is that this recipe doesn't call for tomato paste to be added, which to my mind makes the sauce taste too much of tomato, and the lemon is added much earlier to be absorbed by the chicken.

Ingredients:

2 chicken breasts cut into bite sized pieces

vegetable oil

1 onion sliced into thin strips

1 tin tomatoes

juice of 1/2 lemon

Spices:

4 dry red chillis

1/2 teaspoon black pepper corns

1/2 teaspoon chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

teaspoon cumin seeds

teaspoon fenugreek seeds

teaspoon turmeric

2 cardomoms

pinch cinnamon

4 cloves

pinch coriander power

pinch ginger powder

pinch mustard seeds

Method:

1. Fry the chicken in about 3-4 tablespoons of vegetable oil to colour and remove from the frying pan.

2. Add the onion until golden then add the spices. Mix the spices and blitz before adding to the pan and fry for about 5 minutes, adding a little water if necessary.

3. Add the chicken and pour the lemon juice over. Stir well.

4. Chop the tomatoes and stir into the mix. Cook at medium heat for about 10 minutes.

5. Cook in a a medium oven for 45 minutes and serve with basmati rice.
